I love Thanksgiving. Don’t you? Aside from the food, it truly is a time to give thanks for all the many blessings God has given us. Now that we have the wonders of Facebook, I have done a countdown to Thanksgiving Day for the past three years. It gives me an opportunity to sit quietly and think about my blessings. I find myself laughing out loud at some of the memories that come to mind. But then I cry too because there are those that I miss—whose empty chair at the dinner table causes that sad wave to run across my heart.
Thanksgiving brings out the best in us I think…well…unless you’re at the grocery store and they’ve just run out of the very thing you need. My family enjoys a traditional Southern Thanksgiving meal of cornbread dressing, giblet gravy, sweet potato soufflé, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce, homemade creamed corn, enough bread to feed the city, pumpkin pie, cherry pie, minced meat pie, chocolate cake, and a baked, a fried, and a smoked turkey! Not a small feast!
My blessings are many. Far more than I deserve. I try diligently not to take them for granted, but I’m sure I do. Like my family. Thankfully God and they forgive me those times.
I’ve started listing each day on Facebook the things I am thankful for and have come up with a pretty decent list thus far. I’m mostly thankful that I have the freedom to express my many blessings of Thanksgiving. It’s a gift that came with a hefty price.
So what are your many blessings? Care to share? Here…I’ll start with one of mine: I am thankful for: TIME!
The past, present & future that makes up our very existence.
Our time is precious and sometimes it seems there is never enough, or do we just use it unwisely? I’m sure I’ve wasted oodles. So I give thanks for the time I have lived (past), the time I am living (present), and the time I have yet to live (future). More importantly, I remember to always give thanks to the One who gave me this time from the very beginning—my Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.
