Would you turn it into something magical? Or would you simply let it sit all alone longing for a child with a big imagination? If I had a front porch, I’d fill it with all sorts of fun things. Like maybe a pirate’s ship or a castle.

If you can imagine it, a front porch can make it happen. What would you do if you had a front porch?

Leonard the lizard, Wally the worm, Huxley the hummingbird, and Cleo the cat all have something in common. They think being themselves is just too boring. Each wants to be something else. Something larger and more powerful. Something special.

That’s not all Leonard, Wally, Huxley, and Cleo have in common. The other thing they have in common is…the mirror. Even though they don’t know each other at first, they seem to be on the same path to reality.

One day deep in the forest Leonard, Wally, Huxley, and Cleo finally meet and find themselves face to face with—well—themselves. Thus begins their journey of discovering one of life’s most important lessons. But first, they must lose a part of themselves to find out what that lesson is and what it means to come face to face with The Mirror.

If getting your best friends to stop fighting and dealing with Margaret wasn’t hard enough, now Elizabeth finds herself faced with the task of trying to find out who the Wilson Middle School thief is and it won’t be easy. When things around school start disappearing, Elizabeth takes on the challenge of becoming a detective.

She rounds up her friends and tells them her plan to catch the thief. But it’s actually Pappus’ plan. And, like all of Pappus’ plans, it’s a good one. Still, Elizabeth has her doubts that it will work. It seems the thief is just too smart.

When Elizabeth discovers the thief is planning to steal money from the school book fair, it becomes a race against time for Elizabeth and her friends to find out who the thief is before the day of the fair. Then there’s the mystery of the house across the street. What’s with that house anyway? How can Elizabeth possibly solve both mysteries?

I’m a Detective! Elizabeth Marie Hutchinson-When I Dream not only takes the reader on a journey with Elizabeth and her friends to catch the Wilson Middle School thief, but it also provides a lesson in doing the right thing and coming together as a community to help a neighbor in need.

When Elizabeth Marie Hutchinson met Pappus it turned out to be the best thing that could have ever happened. Now that Pappus helped Elizabeth solve her problem with her best friends, it was time to deal with Margaret Callahan. Only there’s one problem. How does anyone deal with Margaret?

Margaret Callahan is without a doubt the meanest, most conceited, brattiest girl in the entire school. Why did Elizabeth promise Pappus she would try to be friends with Margaret? What had she been thinking? Why would anyone want to be friends with Margaret in the first place?

She couldn’t turn back now. Elizabeth knew that once you made a promise you must keep it. Now was the time to put Pappus’ plan into action. How would she ever keep the plan a secret from her best friends? Although Pappus came through for Elizabeth before, she wasn’t sure he could do it again. Dealing with Margaret seemed beyond impossible. Even for Pappus.

Addendum

The artwork in this book is illustrated by student artists ages 6-12.

It all began with a blanket of snow, some tracks, a critter, and a competition.

One morning when I awoke, I looked out my window and saw my entire yard covered in a beautiful white blanket of snow! I walked downstairs, opened my front door, and there they were…tracks in the snow! I couldn’t believe my eyes. The cutest little tracks perfectly placed, one right after the other, in the snow that had gathered on my front stoop. I had to get a photo. The photo inspired me to write a poem about those tracks. And as they say, “The rest is history!”

It occurred to me that my little poem would make a perfect picture book for nursery to kindergarten-age children. I made the bold decision to have kids illustrate my book. From there, I came up with the idea to hold an “Illustration Competition” for student artists ages 6-12. My two illustrators were the competition judges.

Offering not only an opportunity but a challenge to young student artists who might not ever have a chance to showcase their work or their talent was such an honor. It developed into what I call “Kids Inspiring Kids.”

Tracks in the Snow is a sweet picture book parents will enjoy reading to their children over and over again. It’s the perfect book for children ages 0-5.

Ever wonder what’s inside your kid’s head? What thoughts might be rumbling around in there? As a parent or grandparent, have you asked them? Or is your kiddo that one who simply speaks his or her mind?

Meet Haylie. She’s that kid who simply says what’s on her mind. Haylie shares her wisdom with whoever might lend an ear. She has an old soul and speaks not only from her head but from her heart. Each Haylie(ism) brings with it a message for both children and adults.

It’s true about the phrase “out of the mouths of babes.” It most definitely applies to Haylie. Psalms 8:2 in the Old Testament of the Bible and Matthew 21:16 in the New Testament remind us of God’s wisdom brought to us by children. You’re invited to experience such wisdom within the pages of this very special book.

Come on in—the knowledge is wonderful.
